Figure Review: Atomic Blonde, Funko

Towards the end of 2017, October to be exact, Atomic Blonde, starring Charlize Theron, was released.

If you haven’t seen the film you can read up on it here. If you have seen the film you’ll know that the David Leitch directed pic is one of the best spy films of the last decade. Set in the late 1980s Lorraine Broughton (Theron) finds herself in Germany during the fall of the Berlin Wall.

But the most impressive feature of the film is Theron’s kickass performance. The Oscar winners’ performance oozes authenticity and believability especially in terms of Broughton’s physicality and fighting style. Her crafty ass kicking throughout all of the action and fight sequences are easily one of the best parts of the film.

It’s only fitting then that you’d become a fan of Lorraine Broughton and hence would have to add her to your undoubtedly burgeoning Funko collection. Rejoice! For Funko has released two Pops! of the platinum blonde Broughton.

AT2The first of the Pops (565) features Lorraine in a white trench coat, black-and-white striped shirt, black skirt, and knee-high black boots. Complete with smoky eye make-up and black leather gloves Funko have placed Lorrraine is a combat pose which instantaneously relates to the character. The platinum blonde hair too is spot on.

But for a smidgen of paint spillage on the hairpiece the figure is well finished and in its simplicity perfectly captures the character.

AT3The second Pop! in the range (566) sees Lorraine in a darker outfit that consists of a black trench coat and grey scarf. In this iteration Funko has included a handgun in the right hand while the left hand is casually buried in the trench pocket. The laidback stance, despite the handgun, effortlessly creates the link to the casual and cool façade of the character.

AT5However, this Pop! has several issues in terms of its finishing. The paint on the hand holding the handgun is sporting some paint spillage while the back of the head also sees some additional paint that certainly doesn’t belong.

Overall, the two Pops! are a must have if you’re a fan of the film. After all, with the exception of Superhero-centric films there’s hardly been a more badass female spy in the recent cinematic universe.
