  1. Hi,

I want to start getting into sim racing but don’t want to buy Thrustmaster gear.
I feel like some of their stuff feels too toy-like,

If you don’t mind, I have a few queries about your experience.
Did you buy from the Fanatec US or European store?
Did you need to buy any type of plug conversion to handle power supply voltages?
How was your experience with customs?
Which parcel forwarding service did you use?
How was your experience with the parcel forwarding service? (I’ve been reading many stories about packages being stolen from warehouses)

I hope to hear from you soon.
    Thanks

    1. Hi,

      Thanks for your comment.

First, if you are starting out in sim racing it would be my suggestion to start out with a setup that you won’t be overwhelmed by at the outset. Therefore, I would recommend the Logitech G29 which is a more than good enough starting point.

However, if you are set on starting out your sim racing journey with Fanatec I will answer your questions as posed.

My set-up came form the company’s base in Germany for which UPS was used as the forwarding service. I cannot recommend UPS as a courier service highly enough – You are guaranteed an experience that is second to none. They will also deal with Customs on your behalf. There may be a fee payable but it was relatively low in my situation.

No additional plugs or power supplies were required. One of the major positives of the Fanatec setup is that it is plug-and-play.

I hope this helps and that you are soon on your sim racing journey. Enjoy!

      1. Thank you for your response.

I’ve been looking for information everywhere from reddit to your blog post, and finally I get information I was looking for.

      2. Hi again,

Did you ship your gear to another address before shipping it to SA?

        What was your shipping process?

AFAIK on the Fanatec website you cannot select South Africa as a shipping destination. I get an error “selected country is out of region”

Also, I checked the UPS site but could not find any information about parcel forwarding.

I’m just trying to get all my ducks in a row and cover all the bases before pulling the trigger on spending upwards of 30k

      3. Hi,

I would suggest contacting Fanatec via their website; they are more than helpful and happy to assist. Alternatively, there is a range of Fanatec products available to purchase via Amazon. I have several experiences with Amazon without incident.
